Okay... so I failed already. I pulled up this window to write a blog post yesterday but then my mom got back from her trip to Arkansas (I was "house sitting" for her) and we had pizza and watched movies. I kinda just never got back to this. Ah well, it was worth it. :)
Yesterday was my 34 week mark! It's so crazy, because baby definitely dropped (hopefully completely. If he gets any lower, I won't be able to walk anymore! Let alone sit!) It was so quick too.
Here was me at 33 weeks:
And here is me at 34 weeks
Yeah, I think that's a pretty big difference!
I really need to pack my bag for the hospital. It's a little hard though, what with me not being home in weeks. I have an adequate bag here at my moms, but there are no actual baby clothes in it. Which is frustrating. I do have these really cute, really soft newborn slippers in there though. I'm completely in love with them!
With the guidance of my mom, I've been buying things for baby with each pay check. With the last paycheck I got (ugh, stupid bed rest!), I bought him a small pack of newborn diapers since I have a big box at my house, a big pack of size 8-14lbs diapers, outlet covers to start baby proofing, and his first little blanket.
Today, I need to go to Burlington Coat Factory and pick up some of the things my crazy mom put on layaway for him. I'll be paying for the crib/changing table and getting that out. I think for the other stuff, there is about 150-300 left to go on that. Not too sure, she did the rest with my dad while I wasn't there. I know that she (they) are excited about the first grandchild, but she has been going above and beyond. It's pretty funny actually. We went there once just for fun, and she ended up putting a stroller/car seat/base combo, bath tub, bath accessories, etc on layaway. I think it came out to about $200 or so. That's also when she put the crib/changing table aside but they weren't in layaway yet because they had to get a new shipment first. And she did get all that other stuff out back in like... March. When she went to pay for all of that, she told me she put about $850 worth of more stuff in there. That's almost paid off by now though.
Anywho, I've been having contractions today but only for about 20 minutes. I called my doctors office to relay a message not about the contractions, but about a weird and somewhat concerning side effect from the medication I take to stop the contractions. I mentioned that I've been having contractions still but not all the time and not always regular either. The nurse was concerned and said she would give the doctor a call. I guess I was mainly hoping to either be able to move my appointment up from Friday or to be able to get an adjusted nifedipine dosage over the phone (which she has done before) or something. But when I told my mom about it, she pointed out a few things that made me feel pretty silly. Mainly that I should have just asked to be seen earlier if that's what I want, because they can't triage me over the phone and it's either appointment or going back to the hospital. So now I feel like I've gone about this all wrong, and I don't want to freak out the doctor and such because I don't want to go back to the hospital, but I I feel like that's what they're going to tell me since I didn't specify. I guess I'm just embarrassed now. Or chagrined. I'm waiting on the nurse to call back so we'll see what they say.
Ah well! I'll update later. Ta-ta!

33 weeks, 6 days annnd
Bed rest! Lovely subject for my first post.
So I've been having trouble with contractions for the past week and a half or so. Last Friday (6/1) I had a routine OB appointment. The doctor asked me about the contractions I'd been feeling to see if they were just Braxton Hicks or not. She didn't think they were so she sent me over to labor and delivery.
Long story short, they were the real deal and I had to get 2 shots of terbutaline to stop them. After 4 hours of being there, I got sent home. Continued having contractions the whole weekend and went back in on Sunday because they were only 2-4 minutes apart for 2 hours. They spaced out on their own after I'd been there for a while. They still gave me a shot of terbutaline and a prescription of nifedipine to stop the contractions while I was at home. The next day I was told I was on bed rest for a week. Well the pills stopped the contractions for about 3 days. Then on Wednesday I started having them again. As well as Thursday. And Friday. I called my doctor on Friday because they really hurt and was told to come in AGAIN. After being in Labor and Delivery for a few hours with both contractions and an irritable uterus, they got some tests back and apparently I have a UTI. Didn't even know. They think that might be contributing to my contractions. I also have excess amniotic fluid, which can cause preterm labor as well. I got another icky shot of terbutaline, antibiotics for the UTI, and an adjusted dosage for my nifedipine and was sent home on bed rest for ANOTHER week. (This is WORK that I'm missing by the way!)
So the meds worked for all of 2 days. Been having more contractions today. Ah well. I guess the amniotic fluid is overpowering the UTI when it comes to the contractions.
I'm 34 weeks tomorrow, but in 3 weeks I'll be out of nifedipine (fat load of good that's been doing so far) and he'll be full term. So even though I'm due in 6 weeks, I'm aiming for anywhere after that 3 weeks. Which is perfect, since next Saturday I finally have my prenatal class (it got rescheduled last month), and the next Saturday is my baby shower :)
I have a followup ultrasound on Wednesday to check my amniotic fluid levels. Then on Friday I see my OB again. She'll determine if I still need to be on bed rest. At this rate, it looks like it though. Moving around makes my contractions worse.
It's unfortunate because I was going to go to Arkansas with my mom and brother this past Wednesday and wasn't able to. But as long as my little boy stays put, it's worth it!
Sometime in July, I'll be welcoming my little boy, Gabriel Ryan D. into this world! It's a terrifying but exciting thought. I wonder what my little love muffin will look like! I got some 4D ultrasound pictures at 30 weeks. Hopefully I get more on Wednesday! He's a little chunker already. He should be about 5 and a half pounds already this week. We'll see how accurate the ultrasounds are once he's born!
Anywho, my carpal tunnel is starting to act up, so I will try to post more later. If not, then tomorrow! My goal is to write something every day :)
